Gonzales Weekly!

We have just one week until AIMS Week! I can't wait for us to show the administration how much we've grown!

Tomorrow, we will be having a Math Night, where we will show students how to solve mysteries. In addition to all of that, we will also be playing grade level games. Students will receive five points extra credit in math for showing up. In addition to the valuable math skills your child can obtain, they can also win prizes and raffles! The event is free, and dinner costs $7 per family. Make sure to stop by me and Mrs. Sullivan's booth while you're solving the mystery case!

This week's spelling words are the second half of the 50 states. These words will come back throughout Social Studies, as students will be required to identify the state, spell it right, as well as its capital and postal abbreviation.

Happy fourth quarter! Just 42 more days left until the end of the school year, and two weeks before AIMS testing begins!

Please note that in addition to regular homework, I will be adding another assignment. It is a current event based out of their Scholastic magazines that will be due on Fridays. Essentially, students need to write a half page describing what they read and give their opinion on it. I will go more in detail about the assignment this afternoon with the class.

This week and next week will be filled with review for the AIMS test. In math, we will review probability, properties of mathematics, and data analysis. In reading, we will read through poetry about different wars throughout history. In writing, students will write about a time they felt accomplished. In science, we will begin learning about our Solar System.

Spelling words this week are even more important than usual. They are the first 25 states in alphabetical order. Throughout this quarter, we will be studying the five regions of the United States. Students will be expected to know how to identify and spell all 50 states, their capitals, and postal abbreviation.

Welcome to the last week of 3rd Quarter!

Even though this is the last week of the quarter, students still need to be here on time every day! I don't want students missing out on important learning opportunities!

This Thursday is pre-paid spring pictures. If you pay for pictures, your child may dress down for their photo. This Friday at 1 PM is our awards assembly. I will send out invitations on Wednesday if your child will be receiving an award.

There will be no spelling homework this week. However, depending on behavior, students may receive one to two pages of math homework throughout the week.

In math, we will take a practice test for AIMS and review fractions and decimals. In reading, we will take a practice AIMS test and continue working on compare/contrast. In writing, we will practice writing a persuasive essay. In science, we will read and discuss a Scholastic magazine.

There will be no school at all next week! Happy Spring Break!

This is the last week I will accept late work, as well as the last week of work that will go on report cards! I will not be giving extra credit, so it is up to your child to make sure any missing assignments are completed!

Last week, behavior was not anywhere close to expectations. After a long conversation with the class, students have selected one behavior they do that they would like to change. Answers ranged from talking to tipping chairs to passing notes. Make sure you ask your child which behavior they selected and how they are doing on their improvement!

This week in math, we will finish up our unit on order of operations and algebraic expressions and take a test. In reading, we will talk about sequencing and point of view. In writing, we will score the essays we wrote last week. In social studies, we will read through a Scholastic magazine.
