Happy Monday!

I have just a few notes for this week! Make sure that your child finishes their science fair experiment by Sunday! I will be checking for data and results on Monday, February 4th.

If you are curious about missing assignments, please check Family Link! I update it regularly, and will give you a chance to see how your child is doing before progress reports come out.

We have a candy bar fundraiser going on right now, as well as sign-ups for the 5k Run in March! I hope to see everyone there!

This week in math, we will begin our unit on multiplying fractions. This should hopefully be a breeze compared to adding and subtracting them! In reading, we will work through fact and opinion, as well as look at graphic organizers. In writing, we will continue going through mechanics of grammar. In social studies, we will read a Scholastic magazine and discuss the Sochi Olympics.

I hope everyone had a great three day weekend!

Remember that by this point, your child should begin or schedule when they will perform their science fair experiment. Results and data need to be clearly written in their science fair notebooks by Tuesday, February 4th.

We are making kindness a big focus for the rest of the year, as La Paloma Academy is now a part of the Ben's Bells program. We are passing out Kindness Coins to students, and they are asked to pass them on to students they find being kind to others. Make sure to ask your child if they've gotten them!

This week should go by fairly quickly! In math, we will finish up our unit on adding and subtracting mixed numbers, and also spend a bit of time learning about mean, median, mode, and range of a set of data. In reading, students will take a practice test to help predict their performance on the AIMS test in April. In writing, we will finish a narrative essay about your child's best vacation. In social studies, we will read through a Scholastic magazine and learn a little about King Tut.

This Wednesday, we will have a spelling bee in the class. I will select one or two students to participate in the school-wide spelling bee on Friday morning. I can't wait to see how everyone does! We have some fantastic spellers in the class, so it should be a great day!

Make sure you are keeping up with your child's science fair dates in the coming months! Order forms for boards went out today. The permission form and title are due tomorrow, and materials and procedure are due on Friday.
