Gonzales Weekly!

Gonzales Weekly
04/29/13

Just three and a half weeks left until the end of the year!

Progress reports go home today.  Please sign and return (don't worry; I'll give them back!) before Friday!

I would like to remind parents again that I will give plenty opportunity for students to raise their grades in science and writing, which are subjects a large number of students are failing at the moment.

I have noticed an increase in student talking during class.  I will be cracking down on behavior.  Please make sure you talk to your child about my expectations in class!

This week in math will be review of unit conversions and probability.  In reading, we will read chapters 7-10 of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.  There will be several at-home reading assignments this week!  In writing, students will write a news article about an event they read in Harry Potter.  In science, I will introduce a final project on the planets to be completed at home.

In social studies, we will work on matching the capitals to its correct state.

Gonzales Weekly

Gonzales Weekly
04/08/13

Good afternoon!  I have a lot I need to cover in this newsletter!

First of all, it is AIMS week NEXT WEEK.  Please make sure that your child is here on time EVERY DAY.  There will be no homework the week of AIMS.

That brings us to our next topic!  You may notice that your child has an increased homework load.  Part of this is a new policy I've put in place to help ready your child for 6th grade.  Any work they do not finish in class is homework.  If you have any questions, please email/call/see me in person and we can discuss this to a greater extent.

Finally, I want to remind parents about all of the methods of communication that are available.  This blog/newsletter/weekly email helps keep you updated on the goings on in class.  I do not post homework on here.  Engrade is a tool you can use to check on your child's assignments and grades.  Homework is entered once I've graded it.  The BEST way for you to see what your child's homework assignments are is for you to check their planner..  They are required to write down their homework every day.

In math, we will continue reviewing the material we learned this year.  In reading, we will begin Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (note that in the coming weeks, your child may have a reading assignment that night!).  In writing, we will work on writing introductions and conclusions, and do several practice AIMS writing prompts.  In science, we will continue focusing on the planets in our solar system.
