Gonzales Weekly

Gonzales Weekly
10/29/12

Please make sure your child is doing their homework!  There was a HUGE drop in homework last week!  Progress reports come out in two weeks and I don't want to see any F's!

Thank you to all parents who donated candy and volunteered their time (or just came!) at the Harvest Fest!!  We had so much fun and it was wonderful to see everyone in their costumes!

As a reminder to parents, DO NOT allow your child to go to school with their Halloween candy!  If I see it out, I will take it and they will NOT get it back.

We have a lot to do this week!  In math, we will have a test on the first half of our fractions unit and then work on comparing fractions, decimals, and percents.  In reading, we will continue to read Esperanza Rising.  In writing, we will practice writing introductions.  In science, we will continue our work on the human body.  In social studies, we will do presentations about the causes of the American Revolution.

Homework will be problemsets 31-33, three spelling activities, reading log, and current events.  I reserve the right to add homework as needed.

Gonzales Weekly 10/22

Gonzales Weekly
10/22/12

Welcome to another Monday!

This Friday is the Harvest Fest from 6-8 PM.  Tickets are available for pre-sale now!  Please consider volunteering to help me and Miss Jarvis at our booth!  We'll be doing the Spin-A-Prize and we would love more parent volunteers!

Make sure that your child is doing ALL of their homework.  This includes spelling, math, reading log, and NOW their current event.  I have several students failing subjects already because they aren't getting their homework done.  At conferences, I did my best to emphasize how important homework is in my class.  Make sure you hold your child accountable for homework!

The cookie dough fundraiser is still going on!  Make sure to sell it, as all of the money made from fundraisers this year will go towards adding technology to our classrooms.

In math, we will continue fractions, comparing and adding/subtracting fractions with unlike denominators.  In reading, we will continue reading Esperanza Rising and will focus on main ideas.  In writing, we will finish the rough draft of our prompt from last week.  In science, we will continue learning about the human body (there will be a test in several short weeks!).  In social studies, we will finish our jigsaw about the start of the American Revolution and then learn about the Boston Tea Party.

G Weekly 10/15

Gonzales Weekly
10/15/12

Happy Monday!

A special thank you to all parents who I met with last week!  I just have three of you to meet with this week and we are set for another year!  Even though these parent teacher conferences are the only ones you are required to do, if you ever have any concerns, please contact me and we can set up another meeting at any time this year.

This week will be very busy!  We are taking another practice AIMS test in math, reading, and writing.  It is ESSENTIAL that your child be in school, especially Monday-Wednesday.  These tests are a great indicator of how they will do on the AIMS – and will tell us what I as their teacher can do to improve their scores.

The cookie dough fundraiser begins today.  Please make sure that your child is fundraising!  The money we make from this goes towards new technology in our classrooms.

In addition to the testing, we will be doing a lot of other activities this week!  In math, we will begin fractions.  In reading, we will continue reading Esperanza Rising (make sure you are asking them about what they are reading!).  In science, we will continue studying the human skeleton.  In social studies, we will learn about the Seven Year's War.  We will begin working on writing introductions in our writing classes.
