Gonzales Weekly

Can you believe we are already at mid-quarter?

In math, we are working on 3D shapes and learning about them.  There will be a test on triangles, quadrilaterals, and 3D shapes next Wednesday.
In reading, we will continue reading Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.  Make sure to ask your child about what we read that day!
We will hopefully do another word war this week, with a cool prize for the student who writes the most words.
Science will be an introduction to biology, the study of living things.  In social studies, we will begin learning about the 50 states.

I would love to have an email list going for parents.  Email is the best way to communicate with me.  I only have 6 parent emails!  If you have time this week, just send over an email letting me know who you are/whose child is in my room.  I would enjoy hearing from you!

Fun with the Preamble!

Several students wanted extra credit in social studies and they decided to scream the Preamble to the Constitution to the playground.  Should I give them the extra credit????

Gonzales Weekly 01/02/12

Hello and welcome to the 3rd quarter!  I am so excited to be back and working with your students as we make our way to the AIMS in April!

Your students have three new seating assignments, sort of a preparation for middle school.  They have home groups that they selected themselves, and then I have assigned them two additional seating arrangements for math and reading.  If you have any questions about how or why I have these groups, feel free to ask me!

In math, we are starting to look at measurement.  We will be doing some comparisons of the U.S. and Metric systems.

Writing will be done differently; mostly at home and involving Dialogue journals where your child and I will write letters to each other.  This will help your child improve their writing skills, as well as speed.  They will also be required to write a 5 paragraph book report once a month, which we will discuss in more detail later this week.

We will begin a quarter-long unit on Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.  It will involve a LOT of activities, intense reading, and articles.  I am VERY excited for this unit.  If you have any questions for me, please feel free to email or see me in person.  In addition to this, we will also be doing strategic reading interventions on Wednesdays based off of class test scores.

Science will be about the water cycle.  Social Studies will continue to focus on the American Revolution.
