Gonzales weekly 11/28/11

Can you believe we only have three weeks left until we are halfway done with the school year?

Before I review our academic objectives, I have a couple quick points to go over:
-We will have a Holiday Concert on Thursday, December 15th.  We will be walking to Grace to the Nations church and performing it there.  Please make sure that you sign your child’s permission slip.  They will not be allowed to go until the permission form is signed.
-Tax credit forms are available!  Remember that any amount that you donate will reduce your state tax liability dollar-for-dollar!  I will be sending forms out every Monday.
-Mr. Emory’s class is heading up the food drive this year.  Please consider donating any spare canned goods!  The class with the most cans will receive a class party and dress-down passes!

Academic goals:
Math: We will finish our unit on fractions, decimals, and percents and take a test on Wednesday.  The rest of the week will be spent reviewing.
Reading: We will continue to do assignments related to the City of Ember.
Writing: The class will each write expository essays describing their 5 day weekend.
Science: This week’s newspaper revolves around hazardous chemicals that pollute our environment.
Social Studies: We will finish out the school year learning about the American Revolution.

Gonzales Weekly 11/14

Welcome to another week!  Please note that progress reports go home today!  Make sure that you sign them!  As a note, I will not accept late work that is over a week past due.  Your child needs to learn to be responsible for their homework!  Also, remember that tax credit season is coming up!  Make sure you donate your tax credits to La Paloma!  This will help improve the quality of education I can give your children by adding technology and new curriculum to the classroom.
In math, we will continue working on fractions.  In reading, we are about halfway through the City of Ember!  In writing, we will be writing another persuasive essay as well as another word war on Wednesday.  In science, we will learn about soil, which was one of my favorite science classes in college!  In social studies, we will continue learning about the early colonists of America.
Thank you for making sure your child is here on time!  The mornings are my grammar lessons, which goes towards their writing grade.

Gonzales Weekly 11/07

Gonzales Weekly
11/07/11

Hello and welcome to another Monday!  Please note that this is a short week, and there is no school on Friday!

Please make sure you are paying attention to tax credits!  All of that money goes directly to the classrooms!  I would like to put it towards expanding technology in my room.

I am now following the school tardy policy.  If a student is tardy two times in one week, they will receive afterschool detention.  If a student is tardy four times a week, your child will receive an in-school suspension.

In math, we are continuing our fractions unit.  We are getting involved in adding and subtracting fractions with similar denominators and relating it to 1.  In reading, we are still reading the City of Ember.  There will be homework assignments coming from this book!  In writing, we will continue reading persuasive essays.
In science, we will read a newspaper about rocks and the rock cycle.  In social studies, we will continue studying the early colonies of the United States.
